FAQs
What are the requirements for opening a Mini Account?
There are just three conditions:
- Be aged between 0 and 17
- Be resident in Spain
- Have a parent or legal guardian who is a Bankinter customer
And that's it! The parents or legal guardians have to apply to open the account.
What documentation do I need to open a Child Account?
- For Spanish minors living in Spain: the provisional DNI or TIN and the family book or digital birth certificate (issued within the past 30 days).
- For non-Spanish minors living in Spain: the minor's NIE and the birth certificate issued by an embassy (also within the past 30 days).
We will also need the DNI, TIN or NIE of their parents or legal representative, who must be Bankinter customers. When the account is opened, they can both choose to be legal guardians for it or just one of them (provided they have custody of the child).
Can the Mini Account have two holders?
No. The Mini Account can only have one holder. You can open a separate Mini Account for each of your children.
Can a minor have a debit card?
Minors cannot have a debit card unless they are emancipated (from age 16). However, parents or legal guardians may request a beneficiary card for the Mini Account, based on their own card, and set limits for its use. The bank account for children includes a debit card with no issuance or maintenance fees, which you can request once you open the account.
Can I withdraw cash with my card?
Yes, you can withdraw cash from your account without a fee at more than 18,000 ATMs, In all: Bankinter, Grupo Cajas Rurales, Deustche Bank, Grupo Cajamar, Laboral Kutxa, Banca March, Euro Automatic Cash and Euronet, as well as the entire Euro 6000 ATM network: CajaSur, CECABANK, Cashzone, Caixa Ontinyent, Unicaja, Colonya Caixa Pollença, ABANCA, Ibercaja and Kutxabank.
Can I open a Mini Account for a minor other than my child?
You can only open it if you are the minor's parent or, failing that, their legal representative. Once the account has been opened, anyone can make deposits to help them start planning for their financial future (this is very common with grandparents, godparents and aunts and uncles, etc).
What happens when the minor turns 18?
The Mini Account will automatically change to the Youth Account with the same conditions (it will still be free and the account number will remain the same, with any linked products). At that point the parents or legal guardian have to disappear from the account, although they may remain an authorised party if the holder wishes them to do so. This is also the point where the holder will have operational passwords to carry out transactions in all online and in-person channels.
Can I set up direct debits in this account for minors?
Can I set up direct debits in this account for minors?
Yes, the Mini Account is a fully operational account so you set up direct debits. However, they must be related to the minor's expenses.
