When should I register a newborn child for health insurance?
In the case of newborn children of the Insured born in Spain, or outside Spain when the mother is an Insured and the birth is covered, they will be included in the policy from the date of their birth under the same conditions as those contracted by the Insured, with no more waiting periods than those applicable to them, provided that the following requirements are met:
- That the newborn is requested to be included in the policy within thirty working days from the date of birth by completing the application form established for this purpose.
- That the registration of the Insured has taken effect in a period of time equal to or greater than 8 months immediately prior to the birth.
If the above requirements are not met, the inclusion of the newborn will be subject to the selection and contracting rules of the Insurer.
Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding sections, if the newborn has any congenital disease and/or malformation, the Insurer guarantees the acceptance of her/his registration in the insurance policy subject to payment of the corresponding premium, and it being an essential additional requirement that the registration of the mother or father in the policy has taken effect at least 8 months prior to the birth.
