How do I add my Bankinter card to a mobile payment app or wallet?
You can do this through our mobile banking app and website, and through your mobile payment app or wallet.
We explain the steps to follow in each case.
How do I add my cards through the Bankinter App?
- The first thing you should do is make sure the mobile payment app (wallet) you plan to use is already installed.
- Next, open the Bankinter app and select the card you want to add to your wallet.
If this card has already been added to a wallet, you will see one of the following messages:
- “Card added to Apple Wallet”.
- “Card added to Samsung Pay”.
- “Card added to Google Pay”.
If the card hasn't already been added to a wallet, you will see the option:
“Add to…” , which, depending on your device, may be:
- “Add to Apple Wallet”, if you have an iPhone.
- “Add to Samsung Pay”, if you have a Samsung. If your card is an EVO card, you won't be able to add it to Samsung Pay yet.
- “Add to Google Pay”, in all other cases.
- Tap on “Add to …” and you'll receive an SMS with an OTP (One Time Password) on the phone you have set up to receive this type of notification.
- Once you have entered the OTP, you must accept the terms of service. The app for your chosen wallet will then open so you can verify the card you are adding.
- Lastly, you'll receive a notification confirming that your card is now available in your wallet and can be used to pay right away.
Common problems
Your phone may be locked, the SMS may be marked as Spam, or you may not have any phone numbers set up to receive SMS notifications.
This is because the card is turned off or you don't have any mobile payment apps (wallets) installed on your phone.
This error occurs when you already have another card in your wallet in the name of another Bankinter customer. You can't have cards in the names of different holders in a wallet. You will have to remove the card that isn't in your name, exit the wallet and then repeat the process with the card that is in your name.
If you're trying to add a minor's card, you should know that you can't do this through the Bankinter app.
The correct process is to add it through the mobile payment app installed on the minor's device. You must have the physical card and your child must have read-only passwords and signed the GDPR.
Here we explain how to add it through the mobile payment app itself.

How do I add a minor's card to a mobile payment app or wallet?
To register a card for a minor, they must meet the following requirements:
- Be the holder of a Mini Account.
- Have signed the GDPR and be registered for the OTP SMS service.
- Have read-only passwords.
- Not have a lock on the card.
- Have the card physically.
What steps do I follow to register a minor's card in the wallet?
-
Registration of OTP (One Time Password) service via SMS
For the minor to receive the OTP via SMS, they must sign the GDPR by going to a bank branch or calling telephone banking on 91 657 8800.
-
Read-only passwords for the minor
Once the minor has activated the OTP service, you will have to request read-only passwords for them by logging in to bankinter.com as their guardian. You will find this option in:
- “Customise” → “Account Management”, filtering by “I am a guardian”.
- “Services” → “Account Management”, filtering by “I am a guardian”.
Next, select Assign/reset minor's passwords. We'll then show you the legal documentation for you to read and accept. Lastly, you'll receive a password on your phone that you must enter to authorise the transaction. You'll be able to see the passwords we've assigned to the minor on the screen. We'll also send you the minor's username via SMS.
-
Registration of the minor's beneficiary card through the Bankinter website.
The minor will now be able to access the website/app in read-only mode. The first time they connect, the system will inform them they can change their password and username if they want to. Once the minor accesses the website, they will have to click on the dots that appear next to the card, then on “Mobile payments” and then on “Add”.
We'll send an SMS to the minor's phone with a link to click and then enter their username and password for the app/website.
Next, they will have to verify the card, for which they will receive a new SMS with a temporary password to enter on the screen they accessed after clicking the link in the previous SMS. Lastly, they simply need to tap on “Add to …” and the card will be ready to use immediately.
-
Registration of the minor's card through the wallet itself
The minor will have to register the card physically, with the card on hand and accessing the chosen wallet and then following the on-screen instructions. They must be registered with OTP SMS and have the online banking credentials as outlined in steps 1 and 2.
Possible errors during the process
- The card is pending verification.
This usually occurs when the minor has tried to register the card without having signed the GDPR.
Once they have signed the GDPR, they will have to remove the card from the wallet and start the process again from the beginning.
- The card is registered but automatically cancelled seconds later.
There are usually two reasons for this:
- The most common one is that the card has already been added to the guardian's wallet. The solution is for the guardian to remove the card from their wallet and for the minor to add their own.
- The second reason is because Redsys has denied registration after detecting a potentially fraudulent device. The error that usually appears is “Card not added in” Apple Pay or “Unable to set up contactless payment” in Google Pay.
The most common reason for this error is having installed an app on the phone that doesn't come from Google Play or the App Store. To resolve this issue, we recommend removing the app from your phone and trying to add the card to the wallet again.
How do I add my virtual cards to a mobile payment app or wallet?
- You can add your frequently used virtual cards to your installed wallet the same way you add any of your physical cards.
- You won't be able to include virtual cards created from a Mastercard debit card, although we hope this feature will be available soon.
What is the Immediate Card Service?
This service, currently available to individuals only, allows you to use your card through your wallet (Apple, Samsung or Google) before you receive the physical card.
- When you apply fo your new card or if you have blocked it due to loss or theft, you'll see a link on the confirmation screen to add the new card to the wallet you're using based on your device. This link will take you to the relevant wallet so you can continue the process from there.
- When it's time to renew it.
If you have already added your card added to a wallet, you don't need to do anything; it will be renewed automatically and you can continue using it as before.
