Bankinter appoints Joaquín Calvo-Sotelo as Director of the bank's West Madrid Organisation

Bankinter's CEO, Gloria Ortiz, today announced changes and appointments within the organisational structure of the bank, with the aim of boosting its growth and business.

Accordingly, the promotion of Joaquín Calvo-Sotelo as the new director of Bankinter's Madrid West Organisation has been announced. This is one of the bank's most powerful organisations in terms of business, and it comprises a network of 43 universal branches, six Corporate centres, one Corporate Banking centre and four Wealth Management centres.

 Joaquín Calvo-Sotelo, until now Director of Wealth Management at Bankinter, will work to boost the sales activity of one of the bank's most important organisations and enhance the different lines of business with clients, encompassing the different segments of the Large-corporate business (SMEs, Medium-sized Enterprises and Corporates), as well as Wealth Management and Retail Banking for individuals.

He will be in charge of representation and commercial and business activity of Bankinter in this territory, as well as the management of all the staff of the bank's different centres and branches in the area. Likewise, in his new position, he will continue to play a role in the Bankinter Group's Wealth Management strategy, the new leader of which will be announced shortly.

Mr Calvo-Sotelo has a long professional track record in the sector and has been with Bankinter for the last 12 years. At the bank, he has held responsibilities related to commercial strategy and customer management and service, such as Commercial Director of Private Banking, Director of Partner Banking and, since 2021, as Director of Private Wealth Management, a segment that comprises the bank's high-net-worth clients. 

New 'Department of Productivity, Synergies and Competition'

In line with these changes, Marta Centeno, the current director of the bank's West Madrid Organisation, will now lead the newly created 'Department of Productivity, Synergies and Competition'.

Bankinter believes that this new management team, which will have a dual reporting line to the General Management Departments of wealth and retail banking and Large-corporate Banking, will be key to improving the competitiveness and productivity of the bank's different products, services and businesses, as well as to promoting the use of new tools - such as AI - and fostering efficiency.

With her extensive knowledge of the commercial network and Digital Banking, having served as Director of this area of the bank between 2021 and 2024, Centeno will aim to optimise commercial and operational support processes for the Network, as well as establish mechanisms that foster synergies between the different businesses to ensure competitiveness.

Appointment of Director of the Madrid Large-corporate Banking Organisation .

At the same ordinary meeting, the Bankinter's Board of Directors also promoted Sergio Simón, currently Commercial Director of Corporates in East Madrid, as the new director of the Madrid Large-corporate Banking Organisation.

In his new position, he will be responsible for leading the management of the Large-corporate business in the Madrid region, as well as coordinating the teams dedicated to serving these corporations. He has a solid track record in the financial sector, with over 17 years of experience and a strong specialisation in business and corporate banking.

For the past year, he has held commercial management positions in the business sector, and the business acumen and strategic vision acquired throughout his career will be key to strengthening the bank's position in a highly competitive segment.

His ability to lead teams, his result-oriented approach and his commitment to collaborative work will enable him to achieve objectives by relying on the talent and professionalism of the members of the organisation.

Simón will replace Joaquín Da Silva, who is leaving the bank after a long and successful 36-year career in which he has been a role model for the teams he has led in his various roles. During this time he has held multiple responsibilities at the bank, mainly in the commercial and customer relations areas, such as Commercial Director in the Castilla Organisation, Director of the Balearic Organisation, Director of the Northwest Organisation of Bankinter and, in his last position, Director of the Madrid Corporate Banking Organisation.
