Bankinter's Board of Directors appoints Maite Cañas as the bank's new Director of Corporate Banking
- The bank is promoting a generational shift in a key area of its business strategy - Corporate Banking -, with the handover of its current leader, Fernando Moreno.
- The Board also agreed to replace Eduardo Ozaita, who will leave his position as general manager of EVO Banco upon the integration of the subsidiary into the bank's structure.
Bankinter's Board of Directors appointed Maite Cañas as the bank's new Director of Corporate Banking and member of the Management Committee at its meeting held today, following a proposal from the Sustainability and Appointments Committee.
The new Director of Corporate Banking will replace Fernando Moreno in January, who will step down from both positions after a long and fruitful 37-year career at the bank, during which he held various leadership roles.
Starting in January, Maite Cañas Luzarraga, current Corporate Banking Manager of the Madrid office, will start to lead a key area in the bank's business strategy, Large-corporate Banking, which is structured into three customer segments: SMEs (customers with a turnover of up to €5 million), medium-sized companies (between €5 million and €50 million) and Large Corporate banking (companies with a turnover exceeding €50 million). Also included in this area is the increasingly important International Banking business, as well as Transactional Banking and Partner Banking, a business based on agreements between the bank and partner companies to offer tailored financial services to their employees.
Born in Bilbao 44 years ago, Maite Cañas has a degree in Law from the University of Deusto and a Master's degree in Business Management and Administration (IEB). After joining Bankinter in 2006, she held various responsibilities within the Madrid Corporate Organisation until 2016 and, subsequently, at Banca Partner, as Commercial Director, demonstrating her ability to transform the business by generating new lines of income. She was appointed Corporate Banking Manager of the Madrid office in February 2019, which covers the accounts of large corporates in this Autonomous Community.
Her appointment to lead one of the bank's main business areas is proof of the bank's commitment to internal talent and to young professionals with a good understanding of the sector and the bank's strategy. Her objectives will include consolidating business growth and expand it to new customer niches and activities.
Generational change at the Group's top management.
The new Director of Corporate Banking will replace Fernando Moreno, who is leaving the bank after a long 37-year career, during which he has stood out for his leadership, his charisma, his commercial vision and his ability to face the challenges and difficulties of the environment with much energy. Fernando Moreno has spent his entire professional career at Bankinter. He has held different positions in the bank related to clients, such as Director of Corporate Banking, Director of Online Banking, Director of Private Banking, Managing Director of Commercial Retail Banking and, since 2020, Managing Director of Large-corporate Banking.
The departure of Eduardo Ozaita, who will leave his responsibility as Managing Director of the Group's digital subsidiary, EVO Banco, when it is merged with Bankinter's structure, also falls under this process of a generational shift.
Also with a long and fruitful career at Bankinter spanning 37 years, Eduardo Ozaíta is a professional with extensive experience in the banking business, as well as in the innovation and digital transformation that the sector is experiencing. Ozaíta has held different positions of responsibility in the Bankinter Group, such as Director of Online Banking, Director of Corporate Banking, Regional Director of Andalusia, Managing Director of Large-corporate Banking, Managing Director of Commercial Retail Banking and, since 2021, Managing Director of EVO Banco.
The Board of Directors of Bankinter has expressed its gratitude for the commitment and work carried out by both professionals, as well as their contribution to the entity over the last four decades, in which they have promoted the bank's business activity in key areas and segments and in all types of market environments, contributing to the extent of their responsibilities to the extraordinary evolution experienced by the Group in this period.
Gloria Ortiz, Chief Executive Officer of Bankinter, has highlighted the importance of the generational shift represented by the replacement of these two professionals and expressed her “deep gratitude” for their generosity, unconditional dedication, effort and commitment throughout all these years. “You have undoubtedly left an indelible mark, not only on the bank, for your contribution to building the entity we are today, but also in the memory of all of us who have been your colleagues. We wish you all the best for this new stage that you are now beginning.”
