Bankinter once again features among the world’s most sustainable banks by renewing its inclusion in the Dow Jones Best in Class Index.

The Bank's chair, María Dolores Dancausa, said the recognition “confirms the soundness and consistency of Bankinter's model” while also endorsing “the Bank's strategy” and “its ongoing commitment to integrate sustainability criteria into its decisions”.

Bankinter renews its international recognition for the eighth consecutive time.

Summary of the AI press release:

Bankinter has reaffirmed its inclusion for the eighth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Best in Class Index, one of the leading international sustainability indexes, in recognition of its performance in environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. The Bank’s chair, María Dolores Dancausa, highlighted the soundness and consistency of the Bank's model as a key factor of its renewed inclusion in the index, which also reinforces stakeholder confidence by putting sustainability at the front and centre of its long-term growth.

Bankinter consolidates its position in the Dow Jones Best in Class Index (previously known as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), a leading global sustainability index comprising the most sustainable corporates. The inclusion acknowledges the Bank’s performance in applying environmental, social and governance criteria, commonly known as ESG criteria. In short, it is an international accreditation that in 2026 Bankinter has succeeded in renewing for the eighth consecutive time.

The renewal of our presence in an international benchmark index like the Dow Jones Best in Class confirms the soundness and consistency of Bankinter’s model, as well as the Bank's ongoing commitment to integrate sustainability criteria into its decisions,” said María Dolores Dancausa, chair of Bankinter and of the bank's sustainability committee.

She also stressed that “the recognition reinforces the trust of our stakeholders— investors, customers and employees—and endorses a strategy that we regard as a key element of the Bank’s long-term growth, based on the balanced development of environmental, social and governance areas”.

Bankinter’s renewed inclusion in the most prestigious international sustainability index was announced by S&P Global following the analysis of 199 financial institutions worldwide, of which only 25 were selected to be listed in the aforementioned index.

Bankinter received top marks in the areas of transparency and reporting, fiscal strategy, financial inclusion, customer relations and privacy. It also stands out in other areas such as materiality, ethical management, human capital development, and health and safety management.

More than eight years in the global index

In short, the Bank will continue to appear in the global Dow Jones Best in Class Index (formerly DJSI), where it has been included for more than eight years, and also in the Europe-specific Dow Jones Best in Class Index, of which it has been a listed member since 2017.

2024–2026 sustainability plan

Sustainability is one of Bankinter's key corporate priorities, as demonstrated by the initiatives it has been carrying out in this area for more than decade and by the implementation of its successive sustainability plans.

The current 2024–2026 sustainability plan is known by the Spanish initials “ADN” and focuses on the following pillars:

  • Responsible action, encompassing issues such as corporate governance, ethics and transparency, human rights and the supply chain.
  • Differentiation, focused on customer relations, people management, sustainable innovation and relations with the local community.
  • Sustainable business, covering aspects such as the risks associated with climate change, natural capital, cybersecurity and sustainable finance.

For Bankinter, the consolidation of its presence in this index also represents a reward for the dedication and efforts of the entire staff and their involvement in all the sustainable projects which the Bank implements.
