According to the latest data obtained from COINC, Bankinter's online savings portal, 15% of Spanish people's savings are earmarked for travelling.
"Under 35" is the age group setting aside the largest portion of total savings to meet the costs associated with travel of one kind or another. One aspect that stands out is that women allocate around 10% of their total savings to travel, compared with men's 6.7%. Also, 5% of users saving up for a trip share their objective with friends through social networks, with the possibility of receiving money from them.
As for the "group targets" established through COINC, where a group of people saves in a common pot to achieve a defined objective, 28% of them are for saving for holidays, making this the leading purpose of group saving, ahead of saving for homes or weddings.
Another conclusion drawn from the data obtained from the savings portal is that at present Spaniards prefer to save for a specific purpose rather than just to have something set aside as a "nest egg" for future contingencies, as had been the case until a few months ago. In this respect, savings earmarked by COINC users for "fashion" have increased by 22%, for "electronics" by 16% and for "gifts" by 13%.
All these new habits observed in COINC users in the past few months point to a general shift in trend, which is already happening, towards an increase in consumer spending to the detriment of savings.
