Bankinter improves the security of its customer communications by implementing RCS technology in its mobile messaging service

RCS (Rich Communication Services) technology increases customer security by ensuring the traceability and authenticity of the sender, simultaneously enhancing the visual experience.

As an evolved form of traditional text messaging, RCS technology allows users to send branded communications through their phone's native messaging app, without the need to download an additional app.

Bankinter has taken an important step in the field of secure communications by implementing RCS (Rich Communication Services) technology in its mobile notification service for the Bank's customers, who from now on will receive much more visual text messages with brand identity and, above all, with a greater degree of security. The new technology ensures the traceability and authenticity of the sender, in this case the Bank, as well as the confidentiality of communications thanks to end-to-end encryption, which prevents fraud based on identity impersonation.

Bankinter is the first bank to use RCS technology in its mobile messaging system for customers, enabling it to send secure text messages with a clearly identified corporate identity. All of this is performed through the phone's native messaging app, with no need to register or download any additional apps.

RCS technology is an evolved form of the traditional text messaging system that Bankinter has been using for more than 20 years to notify customers about account activity or request confirmation for certain transactions. Ultimately, RCS is a mobile communications standard that improves the user experience by offering more advanced and secure features within the phone's native messaging app.

In this first phase, Bankinter has launched the initial version of the new messaging service, focused on strengthening the security of customer communications. The verification and guarantee of the sender (Bankinter), combined with encryption and integration of the brand's visual identity, represent an important step in preventing fraud and building a more robust relationship of trust.

Bankinter will progressively increase its communication capabilities with customers, taking full advantage of this new, more advanced, secure and flexible messaging channel. New features added at a later stage will allow the Bank to send communications with a richer content than a traditional text message, including visual and multimedia elements that will further enhance the customer experience.

The technology works via WiFi and mobile data. However, if customers are temporarily unable to access the service, or if it is unavailable due to an outage or maintenance, messages can still be sent/received in the traditional text messaging format as that system is not being discontinued but will complement the rich messaging system.
