Bankinter will mobilise up to 100 million euros in investments to promote the Spanish film industry
The Bank has been servicing film projects in the main growth areas of the sector in Spain for more than three years, thanks to its specific financing and structuring unit.
It has attracted highly successful national and international productions that have generated investment and employment in the national audiovisual sector and have a budget of 235 million euros.
Bankinter innovates in services. From 2023 until the beginning of 2026, it has raised private investment amounting to nearly 100 million euros for national and international audiovisual productions filmed in Spain.
The Bank is now reaping significant rewards from a specific initiative it launched in 2023 to offer financial support to Spanish cinema. This service offers a financial package to Spanish production companies seeking economic backing for their films and series. So far, it has made possible productions with a total budget of 235 million euros.
The specialised Bankinter unit that runs this service is responsible for analysing audiovisual productions and their financial plans, calculating the potential tax incentives they could access, identifying private investors interested in allocating capital for future returns, and creating ad hoc financial structures for film productions. The Bank also offers specific complementary financing and, on occasion, invests in the project in question.
The financial structuring of the operations allows for financing of up to 100% of the project, with both the producer and private investors benefiting from the increasingly widespread tax incentives worldwide. Several film hubs in Spain are experiencing a significant boom thanks to these incentives, most notably the Basque Country, the Canary Islands and Navarre.
Bankinter has participated in and promoted various forums with the audiovisual industry with a view to demonstrating its support for the sector and its collaboration with public administrations that pledge similar assistance. For example, an event that was held in Bilbao (Basque Country) to showcase investment opportunities in the film industry and R&D projects was attended by the head of the Bank's Northern Territorial Organisation, Javier Hernández Bermejo, and the Bankinter team in charge of the specific structuring for audiovisual productions, as well as other participants from the world of production companies and the public sector.
