Bankinter increases assets in investment funds by 34%, reaching 13.1 billion

The bank has attracted more than 3.3 billion euros in the past twelve months and 155,000 new shareholders, reaching 400,000 subscribers.

Bankinter closes the first six months of the year with 13,063 million euros of assets managed and marketed in investment funds, constituting an increase of 18% since January. This growth rises to 34% taking the total from the last twelve months as a temporary reference, a period in which the institution has attracted more than 3,341 million euros. Furthermore, the 64% increase in the number of shareholders is noteworthy, reaching 400,000 fund subscribers, 155,000 customers more than the previous year.

These figures, the highest since 2007, consolidate Bankinter as one of the ten Spanish financial institutions with the most assets managed in investment funds. According to the manager of Bankinter Gestión de Activos, Miguel Artola, there are a series of factors that explain this strong growth. "On the one hand, the trend is favourable, highly marked by the expansive cycle in equity markets and historically low investment rates that compel customers to find more profitable investment alternatives than the standard bank deposits. On the other hand, influences to this increase in demand include the fiscal appeal conserved by this investment vehicle, the determined commitment of the bank to the Private Banking and Banca Personal sector, the intense commercial work of the company and the good work of the management, which for yet another year has placed its investment funds among the most profitable in Spain", states Artola, who predicts that the growth rate of the demand of investment funds will remain the same the for the rest of the year.

Through the classification of funds, given investors' greater appetite for risk, assets are being transferred from guarantee and monetary funds -decreasing by 14% and 1%, respectively, although still representing 30% of assets- to Bankinter Gestión de Activos mixed funds and equity funds, which have attracted 516 million euros in the period. Mixed funds, both the fixed-income and equity type have grown by 97% in the last twelve months, whereas funds that invest in equity progressed 21% in that same period, reaching 1,341 million euros, and were consolidated as the third most relevant category.

It is also worth emphasising the growth experienced by fixed-income funds, both in the short and long term, which have increased by 44% and 12%, respectively. Overall, both categories total 1,621 million euros, after the increase of assets by 371 million euros since July 2014. But if there is a category that has experienced remarkable progress in the last year, it is that corresponding to the marketing of funds of other international managers, which have practically doubled in assets and numbers. Bankinter, which is clearly committed to open architecture as a differentiating component of its value proposal, managed more than 800 third-party funds at the close of June, at an amount of 5,605 million euros, an increase of 94%.

Bankinter Gestión de Activos has received the 2014 prize for the Expansión-Allfunds best national manager for the results of its investment funds and pensions, for the second consecutive year.
