Bankinter Broker doubles its customer base and increases the volume of brokered equity transactions by 59%

The Broker business detects a genuine interest by retail customers to capitalise on the opportunities afforded by a highly volatile landscape like the one seen last year when 1.7 millions transactions were carried out, an increase of 84%.

Customers traded nearly €29,000 million in equity transactions, up 59%.

In January, customer acquisition grew by 51% and traded cash by 41% compared with the same month in 2020.

Bankinter ended 2020 on a very positive note in terms of its equity business, reflected in the acquisition of new customers as well as the volume of transactions and traded cash, with significant year-on-year increases.

Customer acquisition doubled in 2020 as new registrations with Bankinter Broker reached 18,624, up 105% from a year ago. The  increases in the number of new registrations with this service were particularly significant in March and April, up 400% and 263%, respectively, from the same months the previous year. This growth and the increases that occurred during the rest of year show that retail customers are keen to capitalise on opportunities in the present highly volatile landscape through a platform that offers all the tools for trading on the stock market with maximum guarantees.

In 2020, Bankinter Broker carried out trades worth €28,992 million, up 59% from a year ago. Investors were particularly attracted by the international market, as reflected in the figures: the transactions brokered amounted to €8,288 million, a year-on-year increase of 85%. The domestic market also performed well, with a transaction volume of €20,740 million, up 50%.

On another equally positive note, customers carried out 1.7 million transactions through Bankinter Broker, which represents a year-on-year increase of 84%. Meanwhile, 69,319 customers carried out at least one transaction through Bankinter Broker, up 26% from a year ago.

The portfolio amounts to €15,755 million, remaining stable in a year when the markets registered a decline in certain phases. This was especially true of the Ibex, the most representative index in the portfolio, which had plunged 15% by the end of the year.

The equity business ended 2020 with revenues of €67.3 million, up 49.3% from the €45 million registered in 2019.

Growth in January

Bankinter Broker has started 2021 with high growth figures. In January it attracted more than 1,380 new customers, up 51% from the same month in 2020, while brokered cash grew by 41% to €2,574 million. Transactions increased by 58% to 169,700, leading to a year-on-year increase of 42% in revenues.

A pioneering broker established in 1999 that places a firm emphasis on training investors

In the last four years, Bankinter has devoted significant efforts to training customers and non-customers keen to discover the secrets of trading on the stock market and learn about the various tools available for capitalising on opportunities in the market and keeping a close eye on their portfolios. The sustained growth of this online platform and, especially, customer satisfaction with the service received are undoubtedly a direct consequence of this strategy. Over 50,000 people have taken training courses  (Stock Market Forum, Broker Academy and Trader Lab) delivered by the Bank's experts, both in person in different cities as well as online. This latter format was used much more frequently last year: 7,530 customers enrolled for Broker Academy activities, all carried out digitally.

Bankinter Broker has been offering the Bank's customers access to the main stock markets for more than 20 years, channelling practically 100% of customers' equity transactions at very competitive prices. More than 100,000 customers are currently registered with the service.
