Bankinter sets a milestone in innovation by integrating the business version of ChatGPT, guaranteeing data confidentiality

  • The Bank is drawing on Microsoft's Azure OpenAI technology to launch a proprietary version of GPT technology for internal use only, allowing employees to use generative artificial intelligence models on a trial basis.
  • The objective is to gradually incorporate new utilities, the first being its use as a virtual assistant to enhance and speed up the management of documents, reports and texts in the different areas of the Bank.
  • The end goal of this initiative is to feed information from the Bank into the existing model in order to create new applications and to extend its use as a corporate tool within Bankinter Group.
Bankinter takes a step forward in innovation. The Bank has decided to integrate ChatGPT as a new technological tool in a way that guarantees the security and confidentiality of the information it processes, in accordance with its demanding standards, thus overcoming the most important limitations that have prevented the use of this technology until now.

In a scenario where numerous companies are exploring possibilities for taking advantage of this application and of generative artificial intelligence in general, this new option for secure use, now enabled by Bankinter, represents a milestone of innovation in the financial services industry.

To facilitate the deployment of ChatGPT for internal use, Bankinter has relied on Microsoft's Azure OpenAI technology, thanks to which the Bank is able to use the application within the security perimeter of its technological infrastructures. The technology leverages the capabilities of the most advanced AI models (including OpenAI's GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 models), as well as Azure's business services and AI-optimised infrastructure.

The Bank's Digital Banking area has brought the ChatGPT model to its Azure private cloud where employees will be able to work with internal data in the same way as they currently do with other corporate tools. Until now, the use of the commercial versions of ChatGPT within the Bank was limited, as no internal or confidential information was allowed to be entered into them.

In implementing this project, Bankinter has launched a chatbot application integrated into Teams, to facilitate its use by employees, both on their computer and on their corporate mobile phone.

Implementation has already begun and a piloting phase involving a limited group of employees has been launched with the aim of testing the potential of the project in the different areas of the Bank, as well as its scalability, in view of developing it as a tool for all the subsidiaries of Bankinter.

It will be the Bank's own professionals who will be adding utilities to the corporate version of ChatGPT within the various departments, by using it in self-service mode. The piloting phase will allow a use case result analysis and will provide an indication of the way information is used by the model in the context of the Bank's needs.

Areas of application tailored to Bankinter.

The piloting phase will involve the processing of real information in different use cases using the GPT technology model, allowing document comparison, support in text analysis, the drafting of a series of internal or customer communications, translation or summary of large volumes of information, among other uses. All the above always under the supervision of the Bank's professionals; the business version of ChatGPT is intended as a complementary tool.

Integrating ChatGPT's own version as an internal technological tool will complement the model, which is trained with public information, by feeding it entity-specific data, allowing for even more personalised and relevant results. With this project, the Bank seeks to improve the efficiency of a set of internal processes.

With its own version of ChatGPT, Bankinter is making progress in the application of generative artificial intelligence tools.
