The 2022 financial year ended very satisfactorily for the Corporate Banking business area, whose results grew significantly as a result of two factors:
Also on the positive side is the balance of the loans guaranteed by ICO and Cesce, within the public guarantee programme that was approved to mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic. In 2022, the grace period began to expire and companies have started to pay the principal of the loans without significant problems. In fact, the non-performing ratio for these operations was lower than expected. The Bank was more active than other institutions in the ICO/Ukraine loans, which were made available to help companies affected by the rise in energy prices.
The aim for 2023 is to gain in productivity based on technological developments that have been implemented in recent years. This is the case of the 'Corporate PLAN', which is a transparent proposal for customers, mainly SMEs, that automates the conditions of their relationship with the bank according to their degree of loyalty (the more activity, the lower the fees).
Another instrument with potential is the Business Network, providing Bankinter managers with the reference of companies their customers work with. The instrument has been developed in such a way that it provides a lot of information and very precise information, so that the Bank can be more effective in attracting business, either through new customers or through existing ones. The Business Network is useful for SMEs, but it is also applicable to medium-sized companies.
One initiative that opened to customers in 2022 with a significant investment, and for which the bank has high hopes, is Supply Chain Finance, an international business product aimed at Corporate Banking and which offers a distinctive service in the sector. It is based on a very powerful technological platform, which, together with a team of professionals at the service of our customers and their suppliers, work to optimise cash flows in the supply chain. Bankinter has initially focused on offering confirming solutions, and we hope to be able to extend this in 2023 to factoring activities.
Another promising line of business is the foreign exchange brokerage, which has already proven its potential in recent years and has been well received by our customers. Its good performance was due to a strong marketing effort on the part of the platform in all areas, as well as the volatile conditions in the foreign exchange markets. The integration of the foreign exchange broker in Supply Chain Finance provides our customers with a complete, optimal and global solution for the management of their working capital.
