Bankinter Investment has been developing its alternative investment platform in the Iberian peninsula for seven years, resulting in the creation of Bankinter Investment SGEIC, the fund management company for the Group's alternative investment vehicles, in 2022.
This new fund manager was based on the conviction that a percentage of any investor's savings should be invested in real or alternative assets. Its core objectives therefore include broadening the range of products and services in the field of alternative investment, while making them accessible to a much wider segment of households and savers.
Following the mandatory approval from the Spanish National Securities Market Commission, the first fund of funds for delegated management of alternative investments registered in Spain was launched in the first quarter of 2023, with minimum investments of more than 10,000 euros. This resulted in the creation of Bankinter Investment Gestión Alternativa I, FCR, a vehicle in which more than 4,000 families invested last year, which will continue to be marketed in both Spain and Portugal throughout 2024.
It has a long-term investment policy, seeking to optimise the risk-return ratio through both sector and geographical diversification. This fund of funds aims to gain exposure in sectors as diverse as infrastructure, renewable energy, technology, student accommodation, hotels, logistics, residential rentals, commercial spaces, agriculture and the environment.
This will be implemented in line with the strategy Bankinter Investment has pursued in its more than seven years of activity: investment only in in-house products; exclusive and long-term alliances with the best expert partner in the sector; co-investment by Bankinter, the partner and customers; and rigorous monitoring by the Bank of the performance of the investment vehicles.
Bankinter Investment has also continued to launch single-theme loans vehicles aimed at institutional and high-net-worth investors. Examples of this include:
Another highlight is the provision of investment structures at the vehicle level and co-investing at the asset level for the most sophisticated customers and those with the most assets, enabling them to optimise the overall management of their assets.
Bankinter Investment has launched 23 loans vehicles in the seven years it has existed, with over 4,500 million euros of capital committed by investors and almost 8,000 million euros of assets under management. The main investments have been in the real estate sector (hotels, commercial premises, logistics, student accommodation and residential property), followed by renewable energy, infrastructure, venture capital, the environment and technology.
Bankinter Investment is convinced of the benefits of alternative assets and the management model it has implemented for them, as they provide greater stability and predictability in investor returns and mitigate the volatility engendered by the current macroeconomic and geopolitical environment by decoupling from financial markets.
Bankinter Investment's vocation is to optimise the risk-return ratio of its customers' investments, and to contribute to real, significant and tangible impact on the development of society, through investment that facilitates projects that contribute to solving the most pressing current and future social challenges.
There are many examples of this, such as the more than 3,000 million euros invested in renewable energy to contribute to energy independence in Spain and Portugal, retention of the talent of our students (future professionals) through the development of an accommodation platform, development of modern communications, water and health infrastructure in the countries, and the thousands of jobs created in the hotel, logistics and commercial areas.
Bankinter Investment is committed to a positive transformation of our society and creating a legacy for the future.
