Territorial
Organisation
of Levante-Balearic Islands
Origins and history
The Territorial Organisation of Levante-Balearic Islands was consolidated in January 2014 following the integration of the Levante and Balearic Islands organisations, which had previously coexisted.
Bankinter began its operations in Valencia around 1975, with its first headquarters in the Plaza de Alfonso el Magnánimo. In 1979, it relocated its headquarters to Pintor Sorolla, 24, a mansion dating from 1893, which was preserved and restored by the Bank under the oversight of the architect Rafael Moneo.
In its beginnings, the territorial structure was provincial, with organisations in Valencia, Castellón, Murcia and Alicante. In 1991, Castellón and Valencia merged, as did Alicante and Murcia, forming two units that were fused in 1998 to create the Levante Organisation. The Balearic Islands were integrated in 2002, separated again in 2006, and rejoined in 2014 to create the current Levante-Balearic Islands Territorial Organisation.
The structural development responded to business growth and the economic dynamism of the regions, characterised by their sectoral diversification and export orientation. Sectors such as textiles, ceramics, footwear, automotive, tourism, agri-food and technology have boosted the region’s growth; in Murcia, the agricultural, logistics and chemical sectors were particularly prominent, while in the Balearic Islands, tourism and services led the way.
Among the key figures are Ricardo Moreno (Alicante) and Juan Arenado (Valencia), the first heads of Organisation of the current structure, followed by Guillermo Pesquera (Valencia) and Chema Gete (Alicante), who consolidated the customer service model and culture.
The Organisation is currently led by Oriol Cañameras, who has held the position since 2025.
