Territorial
Organisation
of East Madrid

Origins and history

M

The East Madrid Territorial Organisation was established in January 2005 as a result of the division of the former Madrid Organisation, amid strong growth of the Bank and a high concentration of business in the Community of Madrid. This reorganisation allowed for a balance of weight between territories, improved internal comparability and, above all, brought decision-making closer to the customer, giving the network greater commercial agility.

From the outset, East Madrid has covered the eastern and southern areas of the capital and the Community, a broad and dynamic territory with a highly significant mix of individuals, corporates, and large corporate customers. This environment has been key to its development, by offering significant growth potential in both Retail Banking and more specialised segments.

The creation of this territorial organisation responded to several strategic factors: the importance of Madrid in the Bank’s income statement, the need to avoid excessive concentration in a single structure, the boost for a model based on specialisation and proximity, and the promotion of healthy competition among territorial organisations to drive the growth of the Bank as a whole.

In this initial stage, the role of José Luis Vega as the first head of the Organisation stands out, driving a team with a clear ambition to consolidate East Madrid as a reference territory, laying the foundations for its subsequent evolution.

The Organisation is currently led by Rafaela Vergara, who has held the position since 2019.

Evolution
and changes

Throughout its history, East Madrid has moved from a model centred on the branch network to an organisation that is increasingly specialised and segmented, continuously adapting to changes in the environment and to its customers' evolving needs.

The territorial structure has historically been organised into two main commercial areas, Madrid East North and Madrid East South, to which a third, focused on Corporate & SME Banking, was later added, reinforcing the Bank's specialisation model.

Current
strengths

The main strengths of East Madrid are based on the quality of its team, its positioning in key businesses, and its ability to generate profitable growth in a highly competitive environment.

Its team is its main asset: a group of professionals with strong commercial ambition, adaptability, and a pronounced customer focus, who have successfully built solid, long-term relationships.

From a business perspective, the Organisation has established itself as a leading competitor in certain areas, especially in the real estate development business, structured financing, and the development of Corporate & SME Banking and Investment Banking, with a recurring presence in relevant transactions in the market.
