Territorial
Organisation
of Catalonia
Origins and history
The Territorial Organisation of Catalonia was established in April 1969, when the Bank’s second branch opened (the first outside Madrid) at Plaza del Obispo Urquinaona, 3 (Barcelona). This milestone marked the beginning of Bankinter’s territorial expansion and its firm commitment to Catalonia as an economic and financial engine.
From its inception, the organisation stood out for its dynamism, commitment to service, and proximity to customers, consolidating a strong relationship with the Catalan business community. Among the key figures in the early days was Joaquín Calvo Jaques, the first head of the Organisation, who laid the groundwork for a professional and growth-oriented structure.
The Organisation is currently led by Emma Montserrat, who has held the position since 2025.
Evolution
and changes
Over more than five decades, the Catalonia Organisation has undergone constant evolution, keeping pace with the economic, technological and social changes in the territory and within the Bank itself.

The main challenge
In the next 5-10 years
Catalonia was Bankinter’s first expansion venture. After 60 years of success, our commitment to this project remains as strong and ambitious as ever, as we set out to lead the way for the next 60 years.
