Forbes chooses María Dolores Dancausa as "Best CEO of the Year"

The prestigious publication selects the chief executive officer of Bankinter as "The Best CEO 2021”.

The CEO of Bankinter, María Dolores Dancausa, has been chosen by Forbes magazine as "Best CEO of the Year". She will receive the "The Best CEO 2021" accolade in April at a major event organised by the prestigious publication which will commemorate the ninth edition of the awards.

"María Dolores Dancausa's management of Bankinter, along with the bank's results over the last year, have been key in her becoming the ninth recipient of the Forbes CEO award”, the magazine states. It adds that "the company's digital vision, with a focus on technology and innovation, as well as raising social awareness of the importance of sustainable investment, were also central to her selection". The jury for the award is made up of 13 national and international companies.

In 2021, Forbes rated María Dolores Dancausa the fifth best executive in the ranking of Spanish CEOs published annually by this magazine. She was also rated the best chief executive in the "financial and insurance" sector and the number one woman on this prestigious list, an accolade all the more impressive for being achieved in a year described by Forbes as "one of the most difficult of our lives".

María Dolores Dancausa received the same Forbes award for "Best CEO of the Year" in 2013. She is the only woman to have been honoured with this accolade.

María Dolores Dancausa has been chief executive officer of Bankinter for over 11 years, a period during which she has guided the bank to its highest levels of profitability and robustness. In 2021, Bankinter posted a record profit of 1,333 million euros following the successful spin-off and listing of its insurance subsidiary Línea Directa, a historic transaction for the bank. Prior to her appointment at Bankinter she was chief executive officer of Línea Directa.

In recent years, Bankinter has strengthened its position among the leading Spanish banks. It is not only is the most profitable of the Spanish banks in terms of RoE or return on equity, but also one of the most solvent and robust in the event of possible adverse scenarios in Spain and ranks third in Europe, as illustrated by the latest stress test carried out by the European Banking Authority on the banking sector.
