The British magazine Euromoney has recognised Bankinter for its social performance as the “Best Spanish Bank for corporate responsibility 2024” in its Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2024.
These highly prestigious awards, which the magazine set up in 1992, are considered a benchmark in the international banking sector. This award recognises Bankinter's commitment to actions that promote diversity and inclusion, and its commitment to employment, innovation and measures that impact the local communities where it operates.
The bank's corporate responsibility strategy aims to achieve a positive impact for its employees, society and the environment.
In the social sphere, Bankinter initiatives have benefited more than 19,000 people and have involved 20% of its employees. It has signed a range of agreements with social and cultural associations and entities. Bankinter also has a corporate volunteering programme, which contributes to the impact on the local communities where it operates. Last year, 140 volunteer actions took place in relation to social, environmental, sports and financial education activities.
Bankinter has an inclusive strategy through its 'A bank for everyone' programme', which manifests its commitment to making all of its channels accessible, including physical, digital and cognitive accessibility. Bankinter was the first bank to receive the ILUNION accessibility seal for its mobile app. It also has a universal accessibility certificate for its main buildings and various branches. As part of its commitment to accessibility, Bankinter partners with other entities, such as its collaboration with the Thyssen-Bornemisza art gallery to offer accessible tours of the gallery for people with hearing difficulties.
Job creation
Bankinter is strongly commitment to employment, which it has been demonstrating over more than ten years, during which time it has not made any staff cuts or closed any branches. It has created over 1,000 jobs in the entity organically since 2012, not counting corporate transactions. The Group now has some 6,500 employees.
The objectives of the Bankinter Innovation Foundation deserve special mention. The Foundation works to promote innovation as a driver of transformation in society, through initiatives such as the “Future Trends Forum” think tank, the “Akademia” programme to encourage innovative university talent, “Startups” to foster this segment of business projects, and “Cre100do” to promote innovative medium-sized companies.
Bankinter's strong sustainability performance in the social, environmental and good governance spheres is reflected in it having been included in the worldwide Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the most sustainable companies in the world for six years, and in the European version of this index for seven years. The bank is also included in other ESG (environmental, social and governance) indexes, such as FTSE4Good, MSCI ESG, Bloomberg GEI and Ibex ESG.
