Bankinter confirms its position as one of the world's most sustainable banks after again being named in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index

It becomes one of the world's 'Top 10' banks in environmental and climate change management.

The entity will be included for the third consecutive year in the prestigious stock market index, which not only recognises Bankinter's performance in global environmental management, but also in social and corporate governance management.

Bankinter has kept its place among the companies listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI). This will be the third consecutive year that the bank has been included in the most internationally renowned sustainability index.

Pedro Guerrero, Chairman of both Bankinter and the Bank's Sustainability Committee, greeted the news by saying, 'we are enormously proud to be once again named as one of the most sustainable banks in the world in this prestigious index. Being listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index means we are playing in the international league of sustainability, which today more than ever, is a crucial factor in determining a company's future direction. It also means recognising the efforts of everyone at Bankinter in the task of increasingly incorporating environmental, social and good governance (ESG) criteria into the business.'

Bankinter takes its place in the DJSI, among the world's top 25 banks with the best integrated management in ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) criteria. The ranking was published today by S&P Dow Jones Indices after analysing a total of 254 international companies.

This year, for the first time, Bankinter has achieved the ranking of the tenth best bank in the world in environmental and climate change management, which represents valuable support for its long-standing environmental policy, which began more than a decade ago.

Highlights: include customer relationship management and code of ethics

In addition to its environmental management, Bankinter's management of customer relationships, tax strategy, the code of ethics, the attraction and retention of talent, the development of human capital, and social action were also highly valued.

The bank will also remain part of the European Dow Jones Sustainability Index, where it is ranked among the ten best banks for sustainable management. It has been included in this index since 2017.

Bankinter's continued presence in these stock market indices is reward for the hard work of all its staff, their commitment to the sustainable management of the bank and, ultimately, the institution's global strategy.

Sustainability management has historically been (and remains) one of Bankinter's priorities and is developed in line with strict standards of excellence that include its performance in the three lines of action: social, environmental and corporate governance. This management has been carried out under the guidelines of successive sustainability plans. The latest one, the 'Three in a Row Plan', was approved in January 2016 by the Bank's board of directors for the period 2016-2020. This multi-year sustainability management programme ends in 2020 and takes its name from the three dimensions that comprise the Bank's sustainability model (economic, social and environmental).
