Bankinter and the IDAE sign a collaboration protocol to facilitate financing for energy renovation of existing buildings

The collaboration will support the works carried out within the framework of the Aid Program for Energy Renovation of Existing Buildings and the 'Next Generation EU' funds.

Bankinter has signed the protocol with the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) in order to promote the energy transition of buildings in our country, with a loan for property owners' associations.

This protocol, between Bankinter and IDAE, a public entity within the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, seeks to support renovations carried out under the Aid Program for Energy Renovation of Existing Buildings (PREE), and related to the "Next Generation EU" European funds. The energy related renovation of buildings is one of the levers of the "Spain Can", plan which engages the European funds.

This agreement is national in scope and may facilitate access to financing for 1.2 million property owners' associations.

Bankinter has been firmly committed to financing property owners' association activity for several years, providing solutions adapted to the various situations and needs.

"The protocol that we have signed continues to strengthen our commitment, if that is possible, to accompany property owners' associations, whether they are customers or not, in activities related to energy efficiency, for savings and an improvement in residential consumption and to avoid waste", said Ana Garrido, Assistant General Director and Director of Bankinter's Consumer Business.

This protocol is in addition to the various agreements that Bankinter has with the most significant companies and associations in the Spanish energy market.

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the IDAE, within the framework of the referenced Aid Program for Energy Renovation of Existing Buildings (PREE), will coordinate and monitor this aid, managed by the Autonomous Communities and Cities, these being the direct beneficiaries.

Towards a sustainable and efficient housing stock

According to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urbanisation, Spanish housing inventory currently has about 26 million existing homes, with a total consumption, according to the IDAE, of 30% of total energy.

This information reflects the importance of adapting energy measures which promote savings and include renewable energy, in order to move towards a more sustainable system.

According to the IDAE, only 0.3% of existing buildings in Spain have carried out energy renovation projects. This figure highlights the need to implement measures, ranging from changes in the thermal insulation, thermal and renewable electricity generation for self-consumption and the adoption of regulation and control technologies, to improve the electrical efficiency of lighting, among other things.
