Bankinter and American Express sign distribution agreement

The Bank will market American Express Gold, Platinum and Business cards among its customers.

Bankinter and American Express have reached an agreement for the distribution among the Bank's customers of American Express's Premium Cards and Cards for SMEs.

The American Express Gold and Platinum cards will give Bankinter customers many advantages. As these cards are specially designed for frequent travelers, they include insurance for accidents during trips, overbooking, unforeseen events during trips, and loss of luggage and they give the holders access to VIP lounges at airports, in addition to the other benefits that the company offers its Premium card holders.

Card holders will have access to the exclusive on-line travel agency for American Express customers, where they will be able to find bargain offers, and also pay for trips and hotels by exchanging the points they have accumulated from the American Express Membership Rewards loyalty programme.

Access to the Membership Rewards programme allows customers to accumulate a point for every euro spent at on-line and off-line establishments. These points do not expire and can be exchanged for rail and plane tickets, gift cards, and many other prizes. Card holders can also pay for part or all of any of their purchases using the points they have accumulated.

The American Express Business Cards designed for SMEs allow small businesses to access many services related to their activities. For example, they can monitor their employees' expenditure and access discounts from the network of partner companies offering products and services for SMEs. They also have access to the Business Travel service, which offers the best combinations and prices for company trips.

With the signing of this agreement, American Express continues to extend its distribution network in Spain, as Juan Orti Ochoa de Ocáriz, American Express's CEO in Spain, explains: “We are very satisfied to have reached a distribution agreement with a partner like Bankinter, as our products fit its customers' profile very well. This agreement will undoubtedly help us to maintain double digit growth in the Spanish market."

Furthermore, Alfonso Sáez, CEO of Bankinter Consumer Finance, considers that: "Bankinter has always had open architecture marketing strategies in order to offer the best product for each customer, regardless of whether it is our own or a third-party product. With the agreement signed with American Express, we are going to be able to improve our services for customers in the middle and high income segments, thus improving their satisfaction, increasing their loyalty and strengthening their connections with the bank".
