Bankinter consolidates its position as one of the most sustainable banks in the world

Bankinter consolidates its membership in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), an index that groups the most sustainable companies on a global level. The bank is one of the financial institutions that has demonstrated the best performance in the management of environmental, social and governance criteria, the so-called ESG criteria.  In short, this is an international recognition that Bankinter has managed to renew for the seventh year in a row.

María Dolores Dancausa, Chair of Bankinter and Chair of the bank's Sustainability Committee, mentioned that “the bank's presence in this type of index does not only recognise our good performance, but also provides us with solid credentials before investors across the world, who increasingly value the sustainable and responsible behaviour of the corporates in which they invest. Just like customers or employees value it”. And she added that: “Sustainability is a strategic priority that runs throughout the bank and that we have been developing for many years now and that we want to continue promoting with new actions in the environmental, social and governance areas”.

Bankinter's renewal as a member of the most prestigious international sustainability index has been announced by S&P Global, following an analysis of a long list of financial institutions across the world, of which 25 were selected to be part of the index.

Bankinter has obtained the highest score in the areas of transparency and reporting, customer relationship management and privacy. In addition, it stands out in other sections such as: ethical management, human capital development, labour practices, financial inclusion and health and safety management.

In addition, the bank will also continue to be listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe, an index in which it has been included since 2017.

Bankinter's sustainability plan

For Bankinter, sustainability is one of its corporate priorities and is reflected in actions that demonstrate its firm commitment in this area, with over more than a decade of experience. The entity has been applying successive Sustainability plans in recent years. The current one, called  “DNA”, for the period 2024-26, is developed on three strategic pillars:

Responsible action: Addresses issues such as corporate governance, ethics and transparency, human rights and the supply chain.

Differentiation: Focuses on customer relations, people management, sustainable innovation and relations with the local community.

Sustainable business: addresses different topics, such as the risks associated with climate change, natural capital, cybersecurity and sustainable finance.

For Bankinter, its consolidation in this index represents a reward for the work and effort of the entire staff and their involvement in all the sustainable projects that the entity implements, as well as their alignment with its global strategy.
