Payment method for the Duo Debit card

The Duo Debit card has two sides, each of which has a different payment method. The “Pay now” side is issued with the debit payment method, and the “Pay in 4” side is issued with the deferred payment in four instalments method. The payment methods associated with each card cannot be changed.

  • Pay now

This is a debit card linked to the holder's current account. Payments are charged to the account instantly, which means that with this card you can only access the funds in your current account at the time.

  • Pay in 4

This enables payment of the entire statement balance in four (4) instalments, provided the sum of the purchases (including cash transfers to your account using the Smart Cash service) is €120.00 or more. The first instalment is a grace period with this payment method. (For example: if the sum of your spending in January is greater than or equal to €120, no statement is generated in January as it is the first month of the grace period, with the four instalments being charged in February, March, April and May).

The agreed interest rate is applied to the principal drawn down. See "Annual nominal interest rate".

The part of the monthly instalment used to repay the principal replenishes the customer's credit limit, so it is basically like a loan that is renewed on each settlement.

If the amount spent is less than €120.00, this will be settled at the end of the month in the same way as the “End-of-month” side, with no interest (0.00% APR).

Issuance and maintenance fee

The maintenance fee of the “Pay Now” card is €30 per year for the card issued to the main cardholder and €30 for each additional card. No issuance fees.

The maintenance fee will be waived for the main “Pay Now” cardholder if at least once during the year immediately preceding its accrual they have deferred or split the repayment of any amounts drawn down from the “Pay in 4” card, using the payment-in-4-instalments method.

The “Pay in 4” card has no issuance or maintenance fees.

Limit on withdrawals

“Pay now” side: The monthly limit depends on the available balance in the current account linked to the card.

  • For purchases: the daily limit is €5.000 and the monthly limit is €10,000.
  • For ATMs: the daily limit is €1.000 and the monthly limit is €3,000.

“Pay in 4” side (at a generic level, depending on what is assigned for each customer):

  • For purchases: The limit for purchases is a maximum of €3,000 per day and per month, depending on the available card balance.

Nominal annual interest rate of the “Pay in 4” side of the Duo Debit card

1) Pay in 4: provided the sum of the purchases (including cash transfers to accounts using the Smart Cash service) is €120 or more. 20.55% NIR. (22.60% APR):

2) Smart Cash service: this service is only available on the “Pay in 4” side. There is no fee for the service and it is treated like any other purchase. In other words, if the amount transferred to the account is €120 or more, or, if it is less, the sum of the spending with this side of the card (including Smart Cash) is more than €120, the following are applied to the principal drawn: 22.55% NIR.
