Is the Bankinter Wallet service free?

Yes, it is totally free.

What do I need to start using Bankinter Wallet?

You need to download the app:

  • you can do this from Google Play if you have an Android device with an operating system of 4.4 or higher.
  • If you have an iOS device with an operating system of 10 or higher, you can download the app from the App Store.

Once you have installed the app, you can start storing your cards.

How do I store cards in the mobile app?

It couldn't be easier. The app will guide you through the process.

What services are available through the Bankinter Wallet app?

The mobile app will allow you to pay online with the utmost security, using single-use cards that are generated for the amount of each transaction using your Mobile PIN. Alternatively, you can request (using your Mobile PIN) a reusable card, which you can then store on sites such as Amazon or Netflix and use for recurring online payments. If you have an Android device, you can also make contactless payments (NFC) in physical stores such as restaurants, coffee shops or petrol stations.

Bankinter Wallet lets you fully manage all of your cards (adding, removing, activating, disabling, etc.) and provides easy access to mobile banking.

Can I pay in physical stores if I have an iOS device?

No, sorry. Apple does not allow the use of NFC-enabled mobile devices for mobile payment apps other than Apple's own.

What cards can I store in the Bankinter Wallet app?

As a general rule, you can store any Bankinter card you hold, including your company cards* and your private beneficiary cards**.

(*) Registrations of company cards must be authorised by the company's representative, either through Bankinter Wallet or by signing the relevant contract. Be sure to call 902 888 855 if you need more information.

(**) To register your individual beneficiary card, the main cardholder must first have registered their card in their Bankinter Wallet app. If you see a message telling you that a Bankinter beneficiary card cannot be registered, this might be for one of these two reasons.

Can I store a card on more than one mobile device?

Yes, you can store each of your cards in up to nine “Wallet” apps on different devices. For instance, you could store a card in the Bankinter Wallet app on an Android device and then store it on a second iOS device.

What type of virtual card should I use for my online payments?

The use of single-use virtual cards offers maximum security and is therefore recommended for online payments.
However, businesses such as Amazon, Netflix and PlayStation also allow users to store reusable cards so they can make further purchases without having to re-enter the card details for each payment.
Bankinter Wallet lets you make payments online with both types of virtual cards.

What is the Mobile PIN?

This is the personal code you must choose through the mobile app when storing your cards. You will then use this code to authorise all Bankinter Wallet transactions, no matter the card you select.

Paying at physical stores or online couldn't be easier, because you will always be using your Mobile PIN, with the added security that you will be generating a single-use virtual card for each transaction and for each amount you are paying (you can also generate a reusable card using your Mobile PIN). Using Mobile PIN is great for the physical store and for the user, as its speeds up the shopping process. With Bankinter Wallet, you will never have to enter a PIN in a store's POS terminal, thus avoiding the queues you often see with contactless solutions that require you to enter your PIN for payments over €20. With Bankinter Wallet you will always enjoy the same experience, no matter the type of transaction or the amount involved.

What happens to my cards if I change my device?

If you are planning to change your mobile device, we recommend you first delete all of the cards that you have stored on your existing device using the mobile app.

Don't worry if you forget to do this, because you can also delete your Bankinter Wallet virtual cards via our website.

Why is the Bankinter Wallet system more convenient than other payment methods?

All the cards you store in the app will always be available for payments using your Mobile PIN, and you won't need 3G or 4G connectivity to make contactless mobile payments with any of your cards.

Thanks to the use of the Mobile PIN and our single-use virtual card generator, we will never ask you for your remote banking codes to make payments at secure electronic online establishments.

What security aspects do I need to consider?

For your security, the app will not work on Android devices that are "rooted" or iOS devices that are "jailbroken". We would advise you NOT to use mobile devices that are rooted or jailbroken.

What's the relationship between a mobile card and its associated debit or credit card?

All mobile virtual card transactions will be shown on your statement (and on the monthly statement in the case of credit cards) for the plastic card associated with that virtual card.
In the case of credit cards, the mobile virtual card will "share" the monthly credit limit of the associated credit card, as well as any Smart Cash or Smart Purchase services (although for reusable virtual cards the user can choose a lower authorisation limit: e.g. monthly limit of €100 on payments with a reusable "AliExpress" card).
The virtual mobile card also shares the alerts of the main card or plastic card with which it is associated.

What will happen to the mobile card if my main plastic card is blocked or replaced?

If your main card is permanently blocked (or cancelled), the associated virtual mobile card will also be cancelled. If your main card is blocked as a precaution or preventive measure, payments with the associated virtual mobile card will also be refused until the main card is reactivated.

Lastly, if your main debit or credit card is replaced with a new one, payments with the associated virtual mobile card will be refused if the replaced card has expired and until you activate your replacement card.
